i've recently developed a newfound interest how society evolves. pondering about it, the complexity of it all makes me feel ridiculously insignificant, but it's so fascinating. at the end of the day, it all boils down to one thing: man are fools. we think we're such ingenious creatures, far superior to any being, and look at how we have single-handedly made such a wonderful mess out of this world.

indeed, what seperates man from other creatures is our ability to rationalise and understand. but our ability to understand is driving our obsession with wanting to understand everything there possibly is to understand. we no longer can look at the world with the innocence of a child and bask in the beauty of creation. there is an urge to examine why the sun shines, how the roses bloom, etc. having acquired the knowledge we desire, we just HAVE to put it to use. and so begins the era of technological development. inventions meant to save time that leave us with less time than ever. hassle-free equipment that frustrates us even more. foolproof softcopy documents prone to virus wipeout. and i proudly present to you, planet earth 2006.

perhaps man would be better off without our ability to understand. but if so, the word "man" wouldn't exist, and even if it did, it'd be nothing more than a species in the ape family. would there then be no "supreme" in this world?

thats what i mean by the complexity of the world.
